「地域生物多様性増進法」に基づく「自然共生サイト」に認定

O's Garden は、2023年10月に環境省より「自然共生サイト（民間の取組等によって生物多様性の保全が図られている区域）」として認定されました。

さらに、2025年9月30日に主務大臣（環境大臣・農林水産大臣・国土交通大臣）より「地域生物多様性増進法」に基づく「自然共生サイト」にも認定していただきました。

この認定を通じて、東京郊外の住宅街にある一つの庭でも、工夫と継続によって40年以上にわたり4種の絶滅危惧種が繁殖できるという事実が、広く知られることを願っています。

「住宅街の庭」もまた、今の時代にふさわしい生物多様性区域として認知され、やがて住宅街同士がつながり、都市部における生物多様性ネットワークの構築へとつながっていく・・・そんな未来を夢見ています。

From a Suburban Garden, a Vision for Biodiversity

In October 2023, O's Garden was officially recognized by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment as a “Nature Symbiosis Site”—a designation for areas where biodiversity is actively protected through private initiatives. Following the enactment of the Regional Biodiversity Enhancement Act in April 2025, O's Garden was formally certified under the new legal framework on September 30, 2025, by the Ministers of the Environment, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

This recognition affirms that even a garden in a suburban residential area can, with thoughtful care, sustain the breeding of four endangered species for over 40 years. We hope this example inspires others to see the potential of residential gardens as vital habitats.

My dream is for “residential gardens” to be acknowledged as biodiversity zones suited to our times—and for these gardens to connect, forming a living network of biodiversity across suburban landscapes.
