心に残る出会い

梅雨のやさしい雨が降るある日、O's Gardenに、とても特別なお客様をお迎えしました。

米国在住の環境ジャーナリストで作家でもあるエマ・マリス ( Emma Marris ) さんと、ご家族の皆さんです。

O's Gardenのスタイルに共感してくださったことがきっかけで実現した今回の訪問。雨に誘われて姿を現した希少なカエルたちを、ご家族皆さんが夢中になって観察されている姿がとても印象的でした。

言葉や国境を越えて同じ想いを共有できたことは、私にとって忘れられない時間となりました。そして、「自然を愛する心は、世界共通なのだ」と、あらためて感じる一日でもありました。

『WILD SOULS』との出会い

この日、エマさんから、ご自身の著書『WILD SOULS』をプレゼントしていただきました。

この本は、人と野生生物との関係や、私たちが向き合う倫理的なジレンマについて深く問いかける一冊です。読み進めるうちに、その根底に流れる思想が、私自身の庭づくりの考え方と深く響き合っていることを強く感じました。

自然を人の思いどおりに管理するのではなく、一つの命として敬意をもち、共に生きていく。そんな姿勢が、この本には美しく描かれています。

小さな一歩

エマさんから、「あなたが積み重ねてきた経験や、育んできたビジョンを、もっと多くの人に伝えるべきですよ。」

と、温かい言葉をかけてくださいました。その一言は、私の背中をそっと押してくれました。

これからは、このホームページでも、40年以上にわたり庭で生きものたちと向き合う中で学んできたことや、小さな発見、そして庭づくりへの想いを、少しずつ発信していこうと思います。

その発信が、一人でも多くの方に「身近な庭でも、生きものと共に暮らすことができる」と感じていただくきっかけになれば、これほど嬉しいことはありません。

素晴らしい時間をご一緒してくださったエマさんとご家族、そして多くの気づきを与えてくれた『WILD SOULS』との出会いに、心より感謝いたします。

この出会いは、O's Gardenの物語に、新しい一ページを加えてくれました。

A Meaningful Encounter

On a gentle rainy-season day, we welcomed some very special guests to O's Garden—American environmental journalist and writer Emma Marris and her wonderful family.

Having felt a deep connection to the philosophy of O's Garden, they made this special visit possible. Watching the whole family eagerly observe the rare frogs of O's Garden, which had become active in the welcome rain, was a truly memorable experience. Being able to share the same passion beyond the barriers of language was deeply moving, and reminded me once again that a love of nature is something we can all understand.

WILD SOULS

On this special day, Emma kindly gave me a copy of her fascinating new book, WILD SOULS.

The book explores profound questions about our relationship with wildlife and the ethical choices we face as humans. As I read it, I felt that its spirit resonates deeply with my own approach to gardening—one that seeks not to control nature, but to live alongside it with humility and respect.

A Small Step

During our conversation, Emma warmly encouraged me by saying,

"You should share what you've learned and the vision you've developed with more people."

Her words gave me great confidence.

Inspired by her encouragement, I've decided to gradually expand this website, sharing the knowledge, experiences, and reflections I've gathered through many years of observing and caring for this garden. I hope these stories will inspire others to see their own gardens as places where people and wildlife can thrive together.

My heartfelt thanks to Emma and her family for their wonderful visit, for the inspiring conversations we shared, and for introducing me to such a thought-provoking book. Their encouragement has given me renewed confidence to continue sharing the story and philosophy of O's Garden with people around the world.
